Dear Emma,
In my theatre class we just watched this play (television version), called "Fires in the Mirror". It really got me thinking about our days in middle school. Do you remember how much racial hatred and tension there was? It was stifling and made it hard to learn. This play really reminds me of those feelings in middle school. That's why I thought you would really appreciate this play because it is about a racial conflict/cultural conflict. In this play, a young black boy named Gavin was ran over by a Jewish man. This caused a lot of friction between the Jewish and Black community which resulted in more hatred and violence. You should definitely bring a box of tissues for the scene with Gavin's father!
In the play, characters were interviewed about the events. If I were one of the characters interviewed about this I would say that what happened to the little boy was awful and that I would pray for his family and that they get justice. I would also say that I hope the Jewish and Black community can move past this horrible incident and not let it cost the lives of more people. Hatred and violence will not fix anything, it will only make matters worse. All of the hatred just makes me so sad and makes me feel hopeless for a better tomorrow. I take comfort in knowing that Jesus has everything in control and knows all. That's just me though, tell me what you think!

Love ya,
Hannah
